AE2 revisited

Following his entertaining presentation in August 2007, John Basarin reports back to us re his return visit to Turkey in 2007.

John was born in Istanbul Turkey.Trained as a Chemical Engineer, he lived and worked in many countries throughout the world prior to migrating to Australia in 1973. With his wife Hatice,he has co-authored “ATurkish View of Gallipoli”, “The Turks in Australia”, “Gallipoli-The Turkish story” and a forthcoming book on “AE2,The Australian Submarine at Gallipoli”.

Last year John spoke to us on his participation in the successful exhibition to locate the AE2 and also illustrated his lecture with some excellent photographs of the Gallipoli area.

In September 2007 John facilitated another exhibition to Turkey to the Gallipoli area in relation to AE2, and it is in order to report back to us on further developments in the AE2 story. In retirement John is involved with Three Chimneys Travel and combines his passion for travel and history by taking tours to Turkey. He is a natural communicator and we recommend that you join us to hear him
.
In 2005,John received the Victorian Premier’s award for “Excellence in Multicultural Affairs” for his work in presenting the Turkish side of the Gallipoli campaign. He is working as a Research Fellow with Deakin University to further these aims and to promote understanding between the Turkish and Australian communities. A documentary on the John’s September Exhibition to Turkey in 2007 will be aired on ABCTV on 24th April at 8.30pm.
