The Journal of Australian Naval History

The Journal is a high quality periodical published by the Society twice a year - March & September.

Its purpose is to encourage the study, research, writing and discussion of Australian naval history. It is a showcase for researchers and authors working in the field of Australian naval history as well as for enthusiasts and students who wish to demonstrate superior levels of investigative and writing skills in the genre. The Journal maintains high professional standards by submitting each article for refereeing by experts in the relevant fields, as well as by experienced academic historians.

An Editorial Board, comprising eminent academics and recognised naval history authorities, as well as Society representatives, provides overall direction for the Journal. The Board is supported by a Journal Management Team (JMT), which is responsible for its development and production.

The subscription rate is $35/year.

Each edition publishes at least three major articles of about 10,000 words in length and shorter items of about 4,000 words. The JMT accepts contributions on any topic that relates to the founding, development, growth and experience of the Royal Australian Navy, including the pre-Federation colonial navies, or on the impact of any navy on Australian history. The Journal contains book reviews, items selected from the Society's extensive research base, book reviews, professional notes and letters to the editor.
