IWM Archive Film: British Pacific Fleet (Second Phase)

When: Monday, 28 August 2017 at 7:00 pm

Where: Waverley RSL 161 Coleman Parade Glen Waverley (Melways 71C3)

Last month we enjoyed viewing  the first phase of the British Pacific & East Indies Fleets story. The video presentation we have for you tonight is the follow on to Part 10 of the Naval Video Time Capsules compiled for us by Ronald R Smith from the Archives of the Imperial War Museum, and in this case from the American National archives also.

The BPF was the largest R N force of WWII and Ronald’s Video enables us to view it!

March 1945 saw the R N having to sustain almost daily air strikes throughout a period of over 30 days continuous sea duty. They also experienced the horrors of the Kamikaze attacks. The RN flight decks ,being metal proved to be invaluable in relation to these attacks.

The Episodes of the Royal Navy has been an excellent series and this final episode which depicts the R N at her zenith in WWII, is a trip down nostalgia lane well worth taking. Join us!

The Waverley RSL is conveniently situated opposite the station in Glen Waverley, and the RSL Car park is free but you need to display a ticket on your dashboard.(obtainable from reception)

ALL WELCOME: 'The Warramunga restaurant' opens at 5.30 pm and a number of us take the opportunity of enjoying a lovely meal and a few drinks before the meeting. You are very welcome to join us! We need to book tables and suggest you contact our Rodney Phillips who is co-ordinating the tables for us. Rodney can be contacted on 0466 983 313 or rodneyphillips212@hotmail.com  .
